One of the marches I'm eager to watch is Paul Konerko's road to 500 HRs.
He's at 396 HRs right now, so barring some catastrophe he'll clear 400 with ease this season. And while he's getting up there, he's still averaging a good 30+ HR a season, so it's entirely possible he'll hit it within the next 3 seasons.
He's had no ties to steroids, so normally a 500 HR benchmark means he can punch his ticket to Cooperstown. Thing is, I think the LAST thing voters want is for Konerko to get into the HoF. Just like with Johnny Damon if he reaches 3000 hits by some miracle.

I've noticed in the last couple of seasons the concept of the 500 home run feat being downgraded as no longer an 'automatic' in to the HoF. 500 is mind-boggling impressive and the list is small so I cannot see how a guy could be excluded. Same with 3K hits. I can understand if it's a guy linked to steroids but anybody clean, I mean come on. Only 25 guys have done it: www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/HR_career.shtml

Seems like it is within reach.
Did I forget to tell you guys that I was in Cooperstown late last summer? I've got pictures too - anyone interested? Doubleday field etc.
Nice small rustic town but it's obvious that particular location is the landmark draw for the town. You can have a custom baseball bat made engraved with celebrating anything from your kids birth to getting out of jail to anything you can imagine.

Yeah, the HoF is cool. I've been there 14 times. No, I don't need photos LOL ;-)

Wait, who? Nevermind. I've got my own over-the-hill SS to worry about here in Philly.

He's hot tonight: 3 for 3 so far. One more: 4-for-4 = 3095 15 hits to tie Dave Winfield

I don't think he's going to get to 4k hits. I can believe he'll have a couple more decent-to-good seasons, but no way is he going to hit 200~ hits for 5 more seasons. He's turning 38 in a couple months.

Doubleday field may have started it all but it's got nothing on SKIPPY FIELD here in town.

Before tonight's game Jete is hitting .378 and has more hits than any player in the league. Six multi-hit games and has hit safely in every game of the season except one and has struck out only 3 times in 45 plate appearances. (almost Gwynn-like performance). He's 5 hits behind Winfield. He has more homers at this point than he did by June of last year. Wow. On fire. Speaking of Gwynn: in 1995 he hit .368 on the season with 577 plate appearances and only struck out 15 times. 2.59% PA = K
