It's quite something. He just gets ... more and more *himself* with every year, and it's amazing.

I'm glad to see he plays that intro with a slide....I kept thinking, "how the hell is he doing that with the bar? "

Wow a friend posted this for me...original version of song. Beck pretty much plays it verbatim....no wonder he sounds like a singer when he plays, haha.
Pretty cool....

That was nice.
I don't know too much about Jeff Beck. Maybe it's my age, but for some reason he never really appeared on my radar.
What is a good place to start? I am aware of the Yardbirds stuff, but could probably not identify much else that he played.

Try starting with Guitar Shop or You Had it Coming
or the live DVD Live @ RS

I started with "Wired", went back to "Blow by Blow" and then gradually got everything from that point.
But yeah. Guitar Shop, You had it Coming (I also liked "Jeff" in that "techno" series) and Live at Ronnie Scotts.
Get the BluRay, there is extra footage.

You had it coming and Jeff I'd definitely recommend. I like guitar shop alright, but it's kind of cheesy a lot of the time.
The live at Ronnie Scott's is a can't miss.

I am aware of the Yardbirds stuff, but could probably not identify much else that he played. Truth for late '60s, then Blow by Blow and Wired for '70s, then various moments and tracks since (imho). If you can hear them from a historical perspective, his innovative voice might become clear. Like Hendrix, or any of the classic rock guitar players, his presence is so ubiquitous that it can be easy to overlook what is so amazing about him. That was how I heard lots of that music till my mid twenties.

I never did get the album "Jeff" -- not sure why, it sounds fantastic from the samples on iTunes. I'll probably go ahead and get that one.
Been thinking a lot about ol' Beck lately as I've been reading the new and really large biography that just came out
