So I have a friend. He's a country player. He's played a few of my songs. He recently recorded a version of a song I wrote called "just the other day". He added a string section that sounds really nice and I'm over all impressed and a little flattered, but he missed a couple of lyrics and a few other details that to be honest kind of bug me. What bugs me is that the changes weren't deliberate but instead oversights. He didn't listen close enough to pick up on these details that I think are important. The first mistake he made was a biggie he remembered it being in a different key (c) than what it originally was in (f). After I pointed this out (which wasn't easy) he went back and rerecorded it in E. which sounded much better and def. good enough for me, but he left out or accidentally changed a couple of other details which in my opinion kind of make the song. I like to mess around with odd numbers of verses and such to give songs a twist. He overlooked some of these details, also a really key lyric. I brought it up but I felt like a jerk doing so. I ended up telling him not to worry about it, there can simply be different versions of the same song, my version and his version, no biggie. He told me that he sent his version overseas to a guy in Australia, which is great but part of me is dying inside as now I feel my music is being misrepresented. Oh well f*** it. This brings me to another point, I need to get this stuff copy written, right? Anybody have any advice on how to do this quick and easy?

It's already in "copyright." What you need is registration with ASCAP or equivalent.

I am now a registered member of ascap, there's a small chance I might've just wasted $50, but wth, I've definitely spent money on worse things. Apparently, I have to wait a few days before I start registering titles. Not exactly sure how it works, but I'll figure it out.

I've covered a few but so far no one has covered any of mine that I'm aware of.

A band called Soxie with a songwriter named Dan Murphy wrote a song called "I have no fear" that they credited me as writing the lyrics to as they used (with permission) some words from a post I wrote on a mountain biking forum to produce the lyrics.
I have a video of the song by them but I see no evidence of their continued existence on the interwebs.

A few years back I wrote and recorded more vocal stuff. One song was covered by an indie band from TX that found it on myspace. I will do some digging and see if I can find both versions. It was fun and we were never going to cross physical paths, so I liked it.
