I think they ship in actual anvil flight cases, they're kind of beautiful things in of themselves. A friend of mine bought one for his rickenbacker bass and then pushed it down the main staircase (all 3 floors) of our old high school and took the bass out at the end and said "see? it's still in tune!" That guy was a nut!

There was both a hard shell and gig bag for the BIrdfish (and all Teuffel models, I think).
High shipping to the US may have to do with them being in Canada. UPS is insanely high.
