"I still visit RT almost every day, but it isn’t the same place. Threads move slower; whereas before your topic might be bumped off the front page within a half hour if nobody responded, now it can linger for a day or more. I’m not imagining this slowdown. In 2008, RT’s heyday, more than 42,000 threads were started and they’ve accumulated more than 1.9 million posts. Last year, it was 5,567 threads and 291,460 posts. This medium of online discussion, the forum, isn’t quite extinct, but it’s endangered. The social networks, online commenting and Reddit, in some ways the forum’s Platonic ideal, have taken over."

Funny, I still drop by here a couple times per month just to see if anybody has thrown an egg at the side of the house

Hey, I completely missed this little burble of life. I've been checking periodically to see if any discussion moved back. I mean, I picked up two used harmonizers this year (Eventide and Digitech)--this seemed like the place people might relate.

People forget this place exists, even when you remind them about it. That's been the case year after year. To Facebook mind, yours is just another group to feed from. And there are privacy issues there; I can't have all my private thoughts and opinions visible or accessible to all my contacts and "friends", let alone the general public.

I agree. I miss the old forum BB platform

This format also seems to discourage mindlessly posting any/all links that seem entertaining. There's nothing wrong with that at Facebook for easy banter (which everybody needs) but if you create something of substance--a thoughtful topical post, a compelling idea, music or video, a theory or a record--and it immediately sinks under a bunch of trivial posts that even the poster doesn't really care about, where is the incentive to create or share anything?
So I'd suggest we all think twice before posting something here, more than we've become used to at Facebook. Is what we're about to post just a fleeting novelty, do we actually care about it, or will it actually stimulate dialogue, controversy, insight or whatever with this diverse group.
It's your group and imo it doesn't need to be serious, but the lack of sincerity at Facebook grinds everyone down even if they don't realize it.

Yeah, the lack of sincerity is a good point
