Crazy Doubleneck

My friend is building guitars and he brings them over to have me wire them up. This showed up yesterday:



The customer was not very specific. Apparently he asked for a double neck and to just make it weird.

The lower neck has 8 strings, the 2 lower strings being doubled.

The upper neck has 3 doubled high strings with frets and 2 lower strings on a longer scale with no frets.

That's pretty wild. I bet it will end up on some crazy art rock project - looks like nice wood too. Unusual stringing configuration as well. I'd love to hear it.

The weirdest doubleneck I've seen might be this one:


Akira of the band Dancing Moga has a doubleneck six string bass + six string bass with dual hex outs to double synth modules. It's crazy. So each neck is capable of synth and mag pickup sounds. And it's got a GK2B for yet ANOTHER synth out.

But it looks huge. The double your friend has put together looks a lot more manageable.

Doubleneck lefty six string bass on top with hex and mag outs, then the bottom was a six string lefty guitar with 3 single coils and a hex pickup but since they were soundgarage pickups there were three separate 13-pin outs for use with 3 synth modules.

Get a load of the plastic panel on the back for all of the electronics.

Cool. That must've been a fun project, and I'm glad to see Ozma is doing well or taking off or whatever. He's made some nice looking instruments and has some good design ideas.

If I had my way, there are certain things about the wiring that I would have done differently, but when he brought it over, he had the holes already drilled and didn't want to make more.
