Just curious what everyone thinks about this. I picked this up on vinyl for cheap in Richmond the other day(along with some great old Elliott Sharp records).
I had heard The Attitude Song back in high school, but otherwise was not familiar with this. I think about 40% of it is pretty awesome. Some of the songs have vocals that I just can't take at all.

Almost the only listenable Vai solo record for me. "Little Green Men", "The Attitude Song", "Call It Sleep:, "There's Something Dead in Here" all fun.
I find "Junkie" entertaining. Almost like a Neil Diamond parody.
For me, he has never come close to this record with anything else I have heard (though I have by no means heard it all).

Yeah, I am pretty sure this is the only Vai record I would purchase.

I bought that one back in the day. Honestly, I've never been a big fan though I do respect his chops

Thought the song "Sp Happy" from this record is pretty annoying, it makes me laugh that the woman talking is the same one from "Stevie's Spanking" fame.

I quite liked it as a whole back then, haven't heard it in years. The Zappa enigmatic, satirical, weird humor resonated with SV pretty nicely. And that was one of the few times I knew of that highly chopsy rock guitar was so personal and playful on record.

Vai is one of the only shredder guys I actually like and that definitely includes FlexAble. His vibrato and whammy bar work is only matched by Beck. plus, I really dig his sense of humor and stage performance. He is anything, but boring in person.
Most of the other guys in that genre write these simple songs, he writes some crazy stuff.

Remember there was "Flex-a-ble" and "Flex-a-ble Leftovers". "Flex-a-ble" was more accessible and "leftovers" was weird experimental stuff.
I get the feeling that one time he wouldn't have been out of place on this board but then he grew his hair out and got an electric fan and sunglasses and a great wardrobe and didn't need to visit the dark universes of the kronosonic sound.
