Saw Rosenwinkel live in Chicago last year, and he did some mind-blowing intervallic sweeps that I've never heard him do on record. Really wish someone would have recorded it so I could have figured it out... Yeah, saw Rosenwinkel about 2 years ago now....and damn did he smoke. He always had cool lines, but his technique wasn't as good as some other big new players (Rogers/Kreisberg) however, I don't think that's the case anymore. He is doing some serious playing, and the lines are just so interesting. Incredible really. I think a former guitar teacher of mine recorded that set....I need to find it. haha. His technique seemed boundless that night.

Do you have any Tim Miller lines somewhere? I'd love to see some more of his stuff. I have a couple CDs etc...and the Goodrick/Miller book, but never transcribed his stuff. Where did you find out about this stuff? He's a fascinating and fantastic player. Well, here's an easy example. Take a Gmaj7 arpeggio, play it like this: E string: G, B A string: D D string: F#, G G string: B B string: D, F# E string: A (ending with a 9th) For every string with two notes, use your first and either your third or fourth finger. For every string with one note, use your second finger. Use hammer ons and - if you're comfortable with it - hybrid picking. The most counter-intuitive part is playing the notes on the D string with your first and third finger, but if you practice it enough, you get used to it. That's the basic idea behind Miller's "piano arpeggios" or however you want to think of them. I don't have a lot of examples off-hand, but they're really easy to hear in his playing once you know what you're listening for, and from there it shouldn't be too hard to transcribe his lines with some approximation of the fingerings he's using. It's certainly not "the secret" behind his playing... he's a very harmonically sophisticated player and he has this wonderfully precise touch. But it's a cool thing to add to your arsenal.

Thanks I've definitely done arpeggios like that before, but haven't really used them in real playing, I should start considering longer/larger arpeggios.

In the past few years his technique and phrasing have definitely transcended into another realm...I've always really loved his phrasing and sound but now he's a complete monster.
