Just finished reading this:

Interesting read. The Mormons have done a great job convincinig the right they are just another Christian church when in fact their beliefs are in direct conflict with many of the core tenants of Christianity. This is from 2002, so Mitt only gets a page.

I was in Utah for about 24-36 hours, back in 2006 and it was a weird place. We were on tour and the show was really weird, but not terrible, small crowd and polite applause.

It was really easy to find folks to stay with, so that was nice. We gave a ride to an Australian guy who needed to get further towards the east coast when we left. he came to our show and had been staying in Provo for a week and had all kinds of crazy stories. He said it was really hard to get a cup of coffee, though we had no problems near the highway.

A friends father(head of a Classics dept at a Pgh university) went to an academic conference many years ago in SLC and I heard other crazy stories from him, involving the serving of lukewarm food, because "too hot or too cold is not good for you."

I also remember seeing billboards for Mormon- centric movies that did not exist anywhere else.

Back in the seventies, one of my best friends got converted to Mormonism, he was bright, the life and soul of the party and he just dropped out. Born Catholic it was a bit of a surprise, six months after his "disappearance" I bumped into his (ex) best mate, who told me he had got married. No one we knew had gone to the wedding, we never heard from him again.
