I have been practicing a lot more over the last year or two and the shortcomings of various chairs in the house have become apparent. I have tried a couple different office chairs, dining room chairs and a high folding chair with a low back. The high folding chair works the best, in front of my work bench with the music on it. No matter which of these i use, after a while(even with breaks and stretching) my back starts to hurt. I actually have been standing for parts of my practice routine, because it is less stressful. I am thinking about getting .a drum throne with back rest. Has anyone used one of these? Something sturdy looks to be about in the $200 range. The original guitar chair looks like it would do the job, too, but it is close to $400 with shipping: www.originalguitarchair.com/oak.html

a drum throne works well. but standing is also a good option. I used to practice standing for 6 to 8 hours per day.

Stairs. Stairwells often provide nice reverb too. Standing too.

Standing isn't a bad idea since I often feel I play better sitting than standing - probably from practicing sitting too much.
So if you're going to play out a lot standing might get you better playing results.

I use an armless desk chair. To avoid backpain I use a footstool to maintain the guitar's position without having to hunch over.

Any chair without arms. I very occasionally stand.

My chair has low arms, can't get rid of them since they are part of the structural support but....

So far, I have been alternating between sitting with better posture and standing, and it has worked out well.
