For those of you with interest in things that go Boop in the desert, I recorded 2 segments of the Mark Hosler performance at the 2012 ISEA conference held here in Albuquerque last week: Jim, from Five12.com, convinced me to sign up for the conference many months ago... ISEA is the "International Symposium on Electronic Art" and it is usually held in places such as Sydney, Istanbul and Dubi. This year it was Albuquerque, and it was wonderful to spend and entire week doing cool weird stuff (bio-luminescence workshops, Rethinking Currency standards panel discussions, ect). Mark Hosler is one of the key dudes in Negativland, and he gave a very interesting talk on his experiences being sued by U2 and his own record label (SST). He also did his performance of the Booper Symphony, which uses a bunch of effect boxes and a sampler as well as processing by his homemade "Booper" boxes. He put black tape over almost all the effects so as not to be advertising, but most of them were pretty mundane, and recognizable without logos. The performance was fun, even if it didn't have any guitars. I often lose interest if there are no guitars... Attachments:
