I found a BFR Petrucci 7 string model for about 2 grand used, and told my wife I wanted it, but we'd have to layaway it for a couple months, however it was a consignment, so they can't layaway....but since my wife gave the okay, I'm now looking at 2000 dollar guitars obviously, haha. So I'm drooling over some of the Pro custom Suhrs...then I'm looking at Tom Anderson, Vigiers, PRS, etc..etc....Man, and of course there are no dealers around here, and definitely no places that have lefties....I actually don't have a "ferrari level guitar", my best two quality guitars are my koa decked out Carvin and my G&L legacy. More of a mustang than a porsche. Then there's Bilt, Grosch, Melancon, etc....etc.... But then I see there is a Legacy (US) for 450 on GC used site (circa 1993, good condition) and a Ibanez Prestige for 400 on the same site (mostly not selling because it's black "all left handed guitars are black so they are really unpopluar in our community, haha") However, that'd be just buying the same quality again. The whole Suhr Pro Custom thing is really reasonable, and the quality is impeccable I hear. For 2050 you can get a Modern, with pretty much every feature I'd want. Oh man, what to do....

I thought I smelled something! I've played a few Suhrs and they were amazing, as were the Andersons. Still yet to play a Vigier, but a few of their models entice me, as well. Good luck with your GAS!

I don't envy you. You're at that price point that there are 100 good choices to sort out.
Honestly, I think the economy is headed toward a cliff. Might want to consider an acoustic to strum once we revert to caveman society

You sound like my co-worker who's already pulling money out of banks and putting his money into silver ingots. It's possible I suppose but there are other things that could happen too - I get the idea bastille day II could happen once the richest get a little too full of themselves and the poor get a little too fed up. In the meantime I guess I'll just play this: Oh and I've got my kalimba too and 12-string acoustic.

Well, IE, I guess that's a whole other reason to get a high quality guitar. If the system does fail in the near future, that kind of craftsmenship and technology (like PLEK) will be lost. Better take advantage of it. Yes, there are 100 good choices....how does one decide? ?

If you really believe he end of the system is coming, borrow a page from Wall Street - buy them all on credit - you'll never have to pay it back.

You know, Carvin has done themselves a host of disservices in recent years, but they still make the best playing neck-through guitars I've ever seen. Some (myself included) are pretty down on their electronics, but for $200 you can replace all of that stuff.
I'm somewhat talking to myself here as I just saw a sweet used 727 at a local store today for way cheaper than it should be. Plays like butter, and looks great too. Might have to pull the trigger, as I don't have a good 7 string electric at the moment. To be continued...

Yeah, I don't mind Carvin, I really do like the one I have. There are just certain options they don't have that I'd like. Also there non-locking trem is garbage, so that's another thing to replace. With everything I'd want for the guitar, I'd be spending in the 1700 dollar range anyway. To get a Suhr for a couple hundred more doesn't seem like a stretch, and I won't have to change anything, plus PLEK, and higher quality control.

Ah, the Diablo is what Tammo bought - the last guitar before he died actually. I've still got his MP3 of him discussing it here: madsound.dyndns.org/tammo/framus_tone_clips.mp3Kind of eerie to hear him talking and playing as if everything is normal and fine. But you can get a feel for what the guitar was capable of and somehow it's kind of reassuring to hear him talking. Congrats on the guitar - is it a lefty? Some pictures make it look like a lefty and a couple others make it look like a righty!

Wow, didn't know that about Tammo. Thanks for sharing.
It is a lefty. The first link is the actual guitar, the second link is just the Framus website, of course they won't show it lefty, haha.
I'm pretty excited, it looks pretty sweet.

Yeah, the ovangkol neck is really cool. I also love that It's oiled like a Warwick, those basses have always felt amazing to me.
