Undeniably true, but there's more than a hint of rationalization in this piece, especially given NPR's target audience: affluent liberals who are more likely to feel guilty for not being familiar with a difficult piece of art.
"Go ahead and watch 'Mad Men' you don't have to try to read 'Ulysses' again... after all, you can't get to everything! And who are they to tell you that TV isn't as good an artform?" ;D
