We are playing in Cleveland on July 26 at Now That's Class with Doomsday Student and Tinsel Teeth, and maybe a couple of other places in Ohio, my drummer does the booking.
Mirth, I know it's late, but is there any place to play on short notice in your area, say July 27 or 28?

Yeah, I played Now that's Class just a couple months ago actually. I imagine it was probably Annabell's you played at in Akron. Sounds about right, only about a mile from my house actually.
I kind of think of Akron and Cleveland as the same, there's about 25 minute drive separating us, but coming from NYC, it's a trivial distance, and it is farther to drive from west cleveland to east cleveland.
You might check Annabell's, Kent Stage, The Outpost for the 27/28th. I could probably think of some others.
Usually those places have days open, can't speak for those days though. Depending on the night, and luck, can end up with either 100 people there, or 5. Seems to be no consistency in those places. But that's kind of a Cleveland thing I think. People are completely schizo with going to local shows.

It was definitely Annabell's. Thanks for the other suggestions.

Many years ago, I was in Akron for work(supplying PA system for Pres. Clinton's appearance at the university) and we were walking around town the night before and we walked past Bilbo's(later to become the Lime Spider). What the heck was the deal with that place? The guy I was with didn't want to go in and check it out.

I have no idea actually. Only lived here about 5 years now. Don't know much about the area really, despite places I've played, and even then? haha.
I've never actually played the Lime Spider, none of the groups I play/ed with really fit there booking. So I don't much about them or the history.
Are there any good venues in Pittsburgh you'd suggest looking into?
I have another group too that's looking to do a little tour in September, we're actually heading west initially (Chicago, Ann Arbor already booked) but it can't really be that long because of my work, but getting to Pittsburgh is so easy, and we've never hit it up.

Bilbo's appeared to be a Mock-Tudor Tolkien themed restaurant, but, as I didn't go in, I can't be sure.
Good bars to play in Pgh include Howlers, Caliente and the Smiling Moose.
There are a bunch of good all ages alternative type spaces. We are playing at one of them(The Shop) on friday.
Garfield Artworks always has shows most nights of the week. There is also the Mr Roboto Project.
I will tell my drummer to get in touch with you via FB, maybe we can work something out in the future.

Sounds good. Red Side Visible is currently in recording mode, and thankfully getting back our monster sax player from Colorado (jazz grad school) in August to go with our other ridiculous saxophonist. So it should be the best the group has been in that department. Plus I personally think the stuff I wrote for it is better than the original stuff I wrote for the first album. (Though it's now 2 years old, the new stuff, which is pretty frustrating on the whole, haha, but at least good players want to play it).
Sounds like a plan.

Definitely a bummer you didn't check it out, and me too.
What lameass were you with that didn't want to go in? haha, what a buzzkill. Could have been in completely nerdville for a little while. Maybe even got some mead or something.

Duh, Akron. We have played there twice, once a long time ago at the Lime Spider, and then a couple years ago at some place whose name I can't remember. I think it was a woman's name. We played with bunch of metal bands. We have played Kent a couple of times, too. Howdy neighbor. I cut my teeth in Kent. I live in Chardon now though. I can't get a band together for the life of me up here. Best place to play in Kent these days seems to be Lou's bar, Stone Tavern. Back in the day it was Mothers, JB's down, up, Sam's Mantis Gallery, zephers upstairs, Europe Gyro and student union on campus. It's been years since I played there though. We used to play Daily Double a lot in Akron too. The other bar you played at was called Annabels in Highland Square area of Akron.
