Not sure if you guys are hip to Bryan Baker yet, but man he's something else. Definitely a crowd splitter (just going by youtube comments). I think he's pretty fantastic, and he's only 24. Seems to be playing well beyond his years.

Well, he's about 50-50 with me, too. I've heard the name before, but don't think I'd actually ever listened to him. Some good chops though, which I appreciate.

Check out his album "Aphotic" sometime (it's on iTunes, I think). There are some solos on there which are pretty astounding from a purely technical standpoint -- most players can only dream of playing lines with that kind of intervallic content at the speed that he does.
I've talked to him in person a few times, he's an interesting guy. He got most of his chops before he was done with high school. I also get the sense that he's pretty much bored with jazz and fusion. He took vocal lessons, and is taking his music in more of a "rock" direction, for lack of a better description.
It'll be quite interesting to see what he does, he certainly has the ability to do something very special.

I definitely want to get Aphotic, which I think he recorded at like 19 years old or something. He's definitely interesting. He seems very prolific, I think he has at least 5 albums coming out this year, including another release he said would be like Aphotic, with Tony Levin lay the low stuff down (not sure who else is on it). But most of the stuff now is a little more rock/pop stuff. Hell he's 24, kind of hard to get down on him for trying different stuff out, not to mention he's on a buckethead path of having 200 albums out in the next 10 years or so, ha.
