I used to perform this tune live at nearly every gig from the late 90s through 2001. I don't think a single person ever knew it was a cover or would have known what Praxis was ;D

I hadn't really paid attention to B-head in quite a while. I think he's actually regressing as a player. He can still shred like hell but his intonation is quite shitty in this vid and in a bunch I watched earlier today while looking for this one. He's playing the same licks he was playing 10 years ago. Typical case of the early peaking types: by 18 or 20 they're doing everything they're ever going to do in terms of substantive development. EJ reminds of that as well, to a certain extent. He basically had all his chops as a teen (frightening what he was doing at such an early age) and has not really moved to a higher level of development in the last twenty-plus years.

Sure. Shawn Lane said in an interview that he had all of his hyperspeed stuff down when he was 13 years old and basically had concentrated on piano and keyboards afterwards.
I'm sure it's easy to do - you get a certain amount of technique down and then you feel like "I can work now" but sometimes if you do that you can get a little tired of listening to yourself.
So, I'm working on new stuff again.

Compare that to someone like Coltrane, who didn't start hitting his stride until he was well into his thirties.

If I'm lucky, I'll get a stride. I might not live that long given my parents relatively short lifespans.

I was actually more interested in what Brain was doing most of the time on this video. Buckethead is a bit of an enigma for me, I really do like the sort of "rhythmic playing" he does, but I've never really been taken by his solos, something is just not there for me. I have stolen a lot of his tapping licks though.
His kill switch makes me want to put one on my guitar again. I actually had a push button kind I made, but it broke and I never fixed it, it let me push it really fast actually, which was cool. Kind of cheap though, I should get a better one and put it on all my axes.

yeah, the drums make or break that song. my old drummer (prior to IESO) was a generic rock drummer and could not impart funk grooves. Oddly, when IESO took off we never did this piece. Weird.

The kill switch he uses for his guitars - he uses a commercial video game momentary switch if I'm not mistaken (like from a coin operated video game).
You can tell that Brain is more than just a competent drummer- he was the perfect drummer for the Praxis project.

I have a kill switch in a guitar and not only is it fun, it is also practical if you need to mute when you have a ton of gain going and can't or don't want to turn off whatever pedal you are using.

^ I agree. That's one reason I like the LP style twin vol. knobs. You can set up the front pup all the way off and then toggle for cool effect or, in the event of high gain soloing w/ the bridge unit, you can just kill the signal. A 'kill switch' would be better, though.
