I'll have to check it out. Though, I expect more of the same. Haha.

I do wonder what the motivation is for putting out more albums of essentially the same music? It can't really help his touring numbers. I doubt he's getting new fans because of the new albums. And considering his record sales can't be that great...maybe they are worldwide? No one buys anything anymore...and I suspect it's not super cheap to make his albums, but maybe?
Maybe he just really loves this sort of music? It would seem it would get boring no matter who you are....I get keeping the image up, and playing your part, but you'd think he would want to branch out. Everything you hear about Satch's past is that he could play a lot of different music, jazz, fusion, funk, classical etc... but mostly just has represented himself as a pop guitarist. That makes me question the depth of his creativity and ability... I mean, it wouldn't even hurt his stock to do something completely different. I don't think it would change anything for him.
Unfortunately, like so many "famous" guitarists he has basically not advanced at all in the last 30 years.
I still basically like Satriani, but I don't really need to hear him play the same thing all over again; again.

I suppose nothing else. I guess I hope that people are more creative or enterprising than they really are and that they would get bored doing the same thing over and over again.

he's got a formula and he's trapped into it if he wants to make any money or tour. Deviate and you alienate not only the fans but the endorsers

Can't deny that he has a formula, and you may be right, but I don't think Joe would alienate any fans if he did some other more creative albums. It's funny how few artists are not seemingly trapped in their style. I can only think of a few fairly famous people who seem to make whatever they want to...like Pat Metheny, maybe Vai (though he obviously has a shtick, but seems to be able to get as weird as he wants or as straight forward as he wants).... Though, I also hypothesize most people just aren't that creative either.

Given that 90% of humanity are as dumb as animals it is risky to take risks.

I like the crunchier tone he's working with here but yeah, effectively he's playing to his base.
I did recall one time talking to someone about how he could display a lot more of what he knows in a new record and their point was that would be a "terrrible idea" - Doing an acoustic or fusion record would derail the momentum and branding he has built. He's keeping the money wave going so he can continue to work. I understand that thinking but if I were Joe I'd work under a pseudonym to do weird music outside my usual fan base since he's obviously capable of it.
I had mentioned his that his last record which was a very layered road trippy type record with a very expensive packaging job was kind of a peak for what he was doing there. This is kind of a return to the guitar/bass/drums punch you in the face thing.
Although if someone said to me 20 years ago "hey, one of the hottest names in instrumental music going into the 21st century is this skinny bald guy, can you believe it?" I possibly wouldn't have believed it.

Finally listened to some ...yawn... I mean, does he even put any time in these things anymore? I bet he could write an entire album of this stuff in a few hours. It certainly sounds like it. Oh well...he's laughing at me through his million dollar shades.
