So, drove from Minneapolis to Omaha NE to Stapleton NE to catch the eclipse:
Here's a video with a loop I did at an ambient gig:
(updated link 8/2018)
In brief the eclipse was cool. But just as it was happening I got the weird idea to photograph what was happening in terms of light in the surrounding area.
This video is live, in real time, not a time lapse but it has the flavor of a time lapse in a way.
Anyway, enjoy and watch in 4k if you can.

I almost wiped my memory card on my camera and realized there were some pictures missing so grabbed those. On my FB page is the much vaunted (for photogs) "diamond ring shot".
I somehow stumbled into the most picturesque, quiet, perfect location for shooting the eclipse (or just getting away from noise and bustle) on Sand Valley Road in Stapleton, Nebraska. I should have brought a guitar to strum. I took a video of the area just to show how quiet it was.
That drive though - the GPS on the way back is a crowd sourced thing called Waze which is great in the city. But because it's crowd sourced people on the road can report obstacles in the road, police ahead, etc. Some idiot called Road Dawg (if I'm not mistaken) was reporting false things and the GPS was going "car pulled over at side of road ahead" when it was supposed to be saying "you need to take the exit you are passing RIGHT NOW".
175 extra miles. No thanks. Didn't get home until 3am.

Very cool. I was stuck indoors. Pittsburgh didn't get totality anyway. I could tell it got a little dark outside, though.
