I always dug this song with Jan Hammer and Jack DeJohnette on the "Timeless" record on ECM.
The first half is speedy blasting, the second half is almost funk groove synth in 1975!
Enjoy!
RIP Mr. Abercrombie.

We need a list of all the guitarists who will not die this year. It might be more efficient the way things are going

Yeah, another incredible musician gone. Abercrombie was also, like Holdsworth, a master in the slash chord bitonal language. A worthy study for both.
John had some great albums. Dan Wall is a pianist/organist that played with him a bunch. He's from the cleveland area, he is simply the most astounding musician I've ever really got to talk with. Dan just floors all of us any time he plays, his harmonic understanding is not matched by anyone else I know. He used to teach at Oberlin (retired now). What a total monster musician, and that is the caliber of people Abercrombie were playing with.
Abercrombie kind flows under the radar for me a lot, but I've always like his playing and writing. RIP.
Unfortunately, there was a fake article that he died going around last night, and everyone was joking that he wasn't dead, so it turned into an unfortunate response from many. Got to love the internet.

He is one of those guys I don't know enough about, though I am really liking all the clips that have been posted everywhere over the past week.

He was pretty experimental for a jazzers, more Frissel than Metheny if you know what I mean (though Pat is pretty darn experimental really), maybe I should say Martino, haha.
