I like real country music but rap isn't music -- more like monotone bad poetry with a beat.

How does this fit? I don't like NEWER country or NEWER rap. Most everything I love in country is from before 1985 and the same for rap. Modern "country" is really just hicked out, overprocessed rock.

Yeah, I struggle with pop country and "pop" rap. I wouldn't say I hate either form of music, but I definitely don't seek it out. I realize Brad Paisley is apparently a great player etc...but the music really doesn't do much for me, not because of style though really. It's more a song form thing for me. There is no variety in pop country it feels manufactured.
Rap, I've heard some great rap before, clever and cool rhythms, especially if there is a live band behind it. But the drum machine hero's that seemed to have taken lessons from Satriani on creating grooves and sloppy rhyming does nothing for me.

I listen to some rap and some country. I don't care for pop country, but I don't care for pop rock these days either.
