I am traveling for business. Went to a Guitar Center today (South Jersey. Certainly not crowded. Mostly good deals on low to mid level guitars. High School me would have been so happy at what you can get for your dollar. They did have two Andersons on the wall (one, I think, in the same finish as the one IE recently picked up). Nice looking machines. Went next door to Sam Ash. Same thing, but less people. I did see one of these on the wall that was intriguing: On the bright side, people taking lessons at both places.

I wish my high school me had the recording tech we have now. That little Vesta Fire 4-track sucked.

Yeah, I started out with a cassette recorder from Radio Shack and then graduated to a Fostex 4-track.
My first digital recorder was a free 4 track thing made by russians and all in russian. LOL But it was easy to use since it just kinda mimicked a Tascam / Fostex thing anyways

I used a Yamaha MT-100II 4-track recorder for over a decade until it fell apart.
My first digital audio workstation software was a demo copy of Deck II that was given away free with a magazine that was supposed to be a demo version but most features worked correctly! I still have Deck II sessions burned to disc that I have no way of playing since the software is abandonware but if I scrounge up an old pre-OS 10 Mac I could probably kludge it so I can transfer it to newer gear.

I had a Fostex 4 track, which I loved. I still have it in a box. I then for a short time had a digital 4 (or 8?) track that was a pain in the ass to use. The Derek Bailey tribute a few forums ago got me jump started on Garageband (Thanks!) and then to Logic.

I had a fostex too...probably around somewhere. We used to be so creative with our process back then. I remember recording full drums...bouncing....like 5 layered guitars...bouncing...bass...bounce...vocals...bounce...etc...Record stuff backwards...bounce.
It's so much easier these days, but it misses that devotion and need to stick to the tape.

My first digital multitrack was a Fostex. 8 tracks. I think it had an 800 MB hard drive. Lol!

I would kill you all just to have the synth stuff back that my school had in '83 - and no doubt junked.
And I'd quite like my Levinson Blade back from the dark years of the mid nineties, thanks.

My old high school (since closed) had a Moog Sonic 6. Wonder whatever happened to it? Never got to touch it even once. Just look at it from a distance.
