For sure. I ordered the Eric Dolphy Transcription book, I hope to dig into some analysis. He seems to be like Holdsworth in that he created a ton of scales etc... except he had a lot more schooling in actual western harmony. Sounds like Coltrane and him basically wrote that book with Yusef Lateef called the "repository of Scales and melodic patterns". Which is basically the Slominsky book for jazz players (but has a lot of different stuff). Those guys were not only amazing players, but theorists, experimenters and music scholars. the Lateef is a bit different from the Slominsky book, not the same thing.

Fair point, didn't mean to imply they were the same in content, though I see why it reads like that. But in some sense it's the exploration of different types of scales etc... methodically.
