I've always been amazed by this. For me anyways, it encapsulates the wild west, the frontier, post-war prosperity, mass communications, space exploration, surf tones, the fusion of the collective and the individual, the male and the female, suits and ties and dresses, creative organization ... all the way back to the Greek chorus and stoic resolve. It's like, for a moment in time, all of western civilization was crystallized into Ghost Riders in the Sky. Things weren't perfect by any means but, goddamn, we were going places. And right out front was a Fender Strat.
We're not going back to that, but, all the same, for the guitar to become more than a collector item in some rich dude's basement collection or some unwanted cheese log on Christmas day, it will once again have to embody a sublime ideal.
