There is some question whether Intel has announced these high core chips before they exist as AMD is about to release their 16 core 32 thread chip. Intel naturally says they have an 18 core 38 thread chip. There is a long video here:
That describes the new chips and there is not unreasonable thinking that some of these impossibly upgraded chips actually either don't exist or have lots of limitations associated with them. Watch the video and tolerate the whining but he has some points.
I'd love a system like that but that's manifestly too expensive. Most real pros want PCI card expansion and/or the ability to drive external video cards.
Still, it sure looks sweet.

I'll look at whatever the Mac Pro is someday--when it's replacement time.

the ordinary iMac has more power than I'll likely need. I remember being all excited over getting a Pentium II computer and being giddy over maybe finally getting 16 whole tracks going.
