brief fling with the music major, eh? then reality set in ;-)
Yeah, I contemplated music school for a day or two and my wife-to-be kicked me in the head and put an end to that. LOL

Yeah, I was a classical guitar major for a year . That year managed to strip all the joy out of music so I changed majors....to economics I still enjoy playing some classical guitar pieces now and again. I have a book of Bach lute suites, some of whom are impossibly difficult.

I took classical lessons for a while. I don't know what I was thinking. The teacher was a neurotic mess who chewed his nails to the point where he drew blood (all ten digits)....really kind of horrifying. I think he compensated by gluing on nails for his right hand. On top of that he had stage fright so he dreaded his upcoming performances and was pretty freaked out beyond repair for days in advance. Ugh! I got fed up and decided to move on so the last two lessons I just folk fingerpicked everything and feigned idiocy as this guy just about had an aneurism over the fact that I was getting worse LOL

IE I love it! The story about the neurotic guy is terrific. I had a college music prof give this lecture about how drums and percussion were lesser instruments because they didn't employ pitches.
It was too late because I engaged my mouth before really thinking of the consequences of what I was going to say but I thundered, out loud, during his lecture "Oh? If they're so pitchless how come they have tuning keys?" Let's just say I was on his shit list for the remainder of the class.
I never could survive in that kind of environment where people made idiotic statements and expect me to keep my corrective mouth shut.
That being said, I'll check that link. My ears are shot right now.

Yeah, but one thing is for sure, the drum solo, per se, is virtually worthless as a musical phenomenon. If you can't shake your booty to drums then the drums have failed. ;-)

I remember my personal instructor made a big scene regarding how I maintained my right hand fingernails; he then proceeded to file them for me....a strange moment indeed.

I actually have a degree in Music/Recording Technology, so this was like being back in class. My "favorite" was when we had to do listening tests to various combinations of white and pink noise, then state what the base frequency was for each example. Actually used to be able to pick out a lot of them, too. Glad those days are over!

Yeah, I used to use that "Golden Ears" program where you would learn what different frequencies sounded like, and what different effects sounded like, or delay lengths, etc... Got pretty good at them after awhile. I'm still pretty much in the general neighborhood now.
