First, listen to this old demo (Behind the Moon) Pay attention to the two lead breaks, especially the second one www.reverbnation.com/infiniteego/song/16197850-behind-the-moon-old-demoI think it provides the best example of what is going on as far as the picking techniques go ... not many tracks in this old demo to get in the way: two guitars and some drums...lacking the clutter and murky, dark vibe of Jupiter. Here is the YouTube explanation of some elements...probably not at all what you expected, but, there you have it: Add some compression or distortion to a high gain metal amp and you have the BoSo sound. The trick is coming up with your own patterns and forms and weaving them together. I wish I could still pull it off myself but, honestly, there isn't much of a 'market' for doom of the abyss guitar styles...although, it was always useful for establishing yourself as the hog with the big nuts around the local pickers.

Nice. Thanks for sharing.
I think I remember something about these technique ideas from Kronosonic. There is definitely a few things I've done very similar that I'm pretty sure I stole. I actually haven't done much in awhile (jazz kind of beat some of these kind of things out of me). I am itching to get back to trying it.
Nice to see it for real from the guy that got many of us started on it :-)
BTW, timely video based on the technique dictating discussion recently on here.

Thanks. It's fun to discuss and demo some of these ideas. I wish I had done a good vid back in the day when I had better chops. Perhaps I should woodshed some, get some of that back and do a decent video lesson.

Thanks a lot, Mark. This is exactly the sort of help I needed.
I'm going to have to watch it a few times to absorb everything. But combined with the old Kronosonic lessons, this should be enough for me to come up with my own stuff.
Thanks again!

You're welcome. Remember, the secret sauce is found in combining that odd, double chicken pickin' move with things like open strings plus hammer-ons and slides.

This is fun to see.
I've said before, nobody I can recall clarified and systematized the heady pluralistic guitar vocabulary that was brewing 'post-shred', like you were doing so specifically for a while there in the early '00s with your unique pedagogical drive.
You have put a lot of thought into all of this over the years, I think Youtube or Vimeo could be good places for you to present and develop some of the credit you deserve.
Nice to hear your tele and Vox too.
And btw, is there any reliable market right now? You can find or make your own market (or "audience") based on what you already do.

Ah, there's no 'market' for my playing but I have fun explaining stuff anyways. I think I'll start putting together an outline for a long series of vids. Thanks for watching.

OK that was cool, now to watch it on full range speakers. It's really hypnotic to watch the technique at speed, it's very rhythmic. Too bad about the tele though.
By the way, I always loved that song - something about the riff and melodies over it.
What was that, a Boss GT-8 or something?

Don't worry about that Tele, it's a beater from day one...it already looks beat up
Yeah, BTM was a weird, cool lo-fi thing I just plugged the guitar in, did two takes, and presto....an odd one to say the least....all made up on the spot.
I think that was a Boss GT-3 ... Oh, hell, I still have that GT unit around here and use it for the weird horn stuff. Do you recall when I got the GT-6 and then sold it to keep the 3 to fund the Bogner Shiva (I think it was the Shiva).
Ah, the days of gear insanity.
