Interesting, never saw the original. I actually tune similar to this, though I use the D string thinking it was better to have a focal point in the middle of the guitar, though it doesn't really matter. Definitely has improved tuning tenfold.

I always use the A myself. The only thing I notice about the video is the actual SOUND of the guitar is very low compared to the vocal content. That's my only quibble but the info is what is king here.

What I really like about this is the things your mother should of told you aspect.
Too often basic skills are presumed, no need to pass them on, everyone knows them.
Very often the basic knowledge is ignored, as if you should have already known it.
Full marks for building from the bottom up.
